BookArmy has a unique registration process. You start by providing the name of a book you loved and giving it a star rating. An option of writing a review is also presented. You then enter the standard registration information and are forwarded to your home page. At first, the site offers a dizzying array of options. There are tabs for managing your profile, books, friends and groups. On the side of the home page are sections showing books that are recommended for you based on your previous reading and rating, as well as the top books, most read and top authors. Book lovers have a lot to dip into here.
Social networking is a key part of BookArmy, as it aims to provide a place for you to discuss books with others who have read them. You can set up or join groups and participate in discussions on the active forums. There are also events, both online and offline, and videos featuring author interviews and readings. Although BookArmy is a great concept, it doesn’t work as well as other sites. It would have been good to be able to import existing book data from other applications or web services. The interface for adding books to the library and rating them could also be much simpler.
