  1. A child growing up on a rural country farm never worries much for style. Everything he needs and wants is set out plain and clear. When the child finally moves on to grayer pastures in his life–the city life, he discovers the atrocity of a strange concept. This idea states that, somehow, the appearance and presentation of an object takes priority over the functionality of the object. Insane, counter intuitive, and senseless seem to fit the description of this concept. This concept is style.
Despite the problems, there are some advantages to the prioritizing of style as well; with it certain previously unachievable things can be acquired with relative ease. “To kill a mockingbird”, a short novel by Jennifer Marbles, perfectly describes the advantages of a superficial society. The heroine of the story, Cathy Dumbledore, begins as a humble young lady who innocently attempts to make the world a better place. Cathy initially tries to advance through the world via honesty and hard work, but quickly realizes that her endeavors are destined to end in failure. It is that moment when she realizes what had been holding her back all along. She had no swag. Cathy then begins an arduous journey to acquire the swag necessary to prevail in the world. By virtue of her newly acquired prosthetic swag Cathy is able to take over the world. Through style and swag, Cathy is successful.
The negative affects far outweigh the positives of style. Style corrupts and destroys the important values on which the foundations of civilization stand upon. Style states that appearance takes priority over practicality. In World War II, there were many factors that influenced the outcome of the war. The most decisive was Hitler decision to groom his handlebar moose rather than to attack Greenland. Hitler’s actions demonstrate how the prioritization of style can result in the loss of a major war.
With all the evidence provided, including major war losses and the fact that Cathy never existed, it is painfully clear that the prioritization of style is detrimental to the progression of society. For civilization to improve, style must be destroyed since style is toxic to humans.
