Thrillist – City-Specific Guides for Guys

ss-thrillist

Want to find out about the hottest nightclub in New York? How about the best late night restaurant in Chicago, or the coolest place to buy limited edition sneakers in LA? Thrillist is a web portal that can answer all of those questions for you, and more. The site offers 12 city-specific guy guides—along with a national edition—that offer daily and weekly advice on the best clubs, restaurants, and stores that guys will want to check out.

Signing up to receive Thrillist’s email newsletters is free, and you can subscribe to receive daily or weekly guides to as many cities as you’d like. Someone who lives in New York, for example, might also want to subscribe the Thrillist’s Miami or Las Vegas editions if he travels there frequently for work or play. Or, if you’re not a fan of email newsletters, you can still read Thrillist online and get insider tips day or night.

Once you’re a subscriber, you’ll never again be left in the dark about which restaurants are hot and which are tired. And because Thrillist is cultivated and curated by an independent team of editorial writers, you’ll never be steered toward a restaurant or a retail store that lobbied hard or paid its way to be included in the guide. For any guy out there who has ever yearned for a better way to stay up-to-date and in-the-know about all the hottest happenings in town, Thrillist is an email newsletter that is definitely worth signing up for.

Practical Uses:

  • Find out when new restaurants are opening up
  • Stay in-the-know about which nightclubs are hot (and which are not)
  • Get advice on popular travel destinations
  • Be the first to find out about new retail stores in your city

Insider Tips:

  • Subscribe to as many (or as few) city editions as you like
  • Follow Thrillist on Twitter for additional recommendations
  • Sign up for Thrillist’s national edition to read about the best-of-the-best from across the country

What we liked:

  • Targeted newsletter appeals directly to successful men
  • Recommendations encompass a cross section of activities and interests
  • Maps are included next to each recommendation
  • Thrillist only writes about what it likes, eliminating the need to read about places you wouldn’t want to visit anyway

What we didn’t like:

  • With nearly 1.3 million subscribers, there is a good chance that any restaurant or nightclub recommended in the newsletter is going to be extremely crowded (and tough to get into) in the weeks after its mention
