Marquee – A Publishing Dreamboat

Marquee is an online publishing platform that aims to be what all other platforms are not. Users can publish anything they can imagine – including text, video, images, and audio – on well-designed web pages that can be viewed on any browser window or mobile device.

Choose a Marquee username to snag your own online space, then sign up for an account by logging in through Facebook or Twitter. Enter your full name, your location, and a few sentences about yourself. You can upload your own images to use as a profile photo and a cover photo, then click the + icon to start adding content to your site. Drag and drop any files you wish to include right onto your Marquee page, or use the uploader tool to add that content by hand. On the left hand side of the screen, you’ll find all the tools you need to customize the look and feel of your Marquee site. The web-app offers a number of different themes and layouts, making it possible for people to create completely unique pages without anyHTML or coding skills necessary.

One of the many features that makes Marquee different from existing publishing platforms is its syndication tool. Marquee turns all the content its users post into data that third-party developers can integrate into their own apps. Meanwhile, users can easily share their own content on social networks like Twitter and Facebook.

Practical Uses:

  • Create a stylish website to show off your writing skills
  • Post your artwork in an online portfolio
  • Publish videos of your children online
  • Impress potential employers by maintaining a popular site for industry news

Insider Tips:

  • Click the “shuffle” button to quickly try out different layouts and themes
  • Users can connect Marquee to their Dropbox accounts
  • Marquee never posts content on a user’s networking pages without permission
  • Marquee turns content into data that developers can integrate into their own apps

What we liked:

  • People can design their web pages by dragging and dropping various elements into place
  • Marquee offers a number of stylish themes to choose from
  • People who are sick of using WordPress can start using Marquee instead
  • Pages developed with Marquee are optimized to view on any device

What we didn’t like:

  • Publishers who already use WordPress are unlikely to switch platforms unless they really dislike their current systems
