Wireframe.cc – The Easy Way to Wireframe

ss-wireframe

Most designers know they should start with a wireframe before building a new mobile app or website. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for people to skip over this step in a rush to save time. Wireframe.cc is a bare bones tool that provides a solution to this issue, giving designers a way to quickly create wireframes before getting started on all their latest projects.

Rather than offering tons of stylistic options and features, Wireframe.cc sticks to the basics. To design a wireframe for your new website or mobile app, select your template (choosing between a browser window or a mobile phone screen), and drag your mouse across a blank Wireframe.cc canvas. In most cases you’ll want to draw a basic rectangle, however you can turn that rectangle into an oval or a square with rounded edges by selecting the stencil tool that appears on top of your design. Wireframe.cc will suggest stencils based on what it thinks you’re trying to draw, saving you the time and hassle it can take to create various elements like headlines or paragraphs. Double clicking any element allows you to make edits and change the shade (to a light grey, white, or orange), as well. Click “Save” at the top of the canvas, and you’ll be presented with a unique URL that you can share with clients and coworkers via email or IM.

Colleagues or clients who visit your wireframe can make annotations directly on your canvas (assuming you’ve turned that feature on), and you can make edits based on that feedback by double clicking on the elements you’d like to change. Wireframe.cc lets you quickly edit any elements on your page, transforming rectangular boxes into paragraphs for text in the blink of an eye.

Practical Uses:

  • Start designing a mockup of a client’s new website
  • Plan out what you want your iPhone app to look like
  • Solicit feedback from clients before moving forward on their projects
  • Show colleagues what the website you’re working on will look like

Insider Tips:

  • Designers can choose between the classic browser template or the mobile screen template
  • Users can turn the annotation feature on or off
  • Share templates by emailing the provided URL to clients or friends
  • Wireframe.cc offers “smart suggestions” based on what it looks like a user is trying to draw

What we liked:

  • Having limited options helps speed up the process when creating wireframes
  • People can get started using Wireframe.cc immediately without any tutorials or guides
  • Designers can easily solicit feedback on their projects from clients
  • Designers can return to their project URLs to make edits at any time

What we didn’t like:

  • Wireframe.cc might not have all the features that some designers have come to expect from their wireframing tools
