There’s always room for a new niche online. Given the popularity of Google and Yahoo Maps offering people the ability to plug in an address and destination and easily get directions, Meet in Between adds something new to the mix. Rather than simply give you directions from point A to point B, it gives two (or more) people directions to point C: somewhere equidistant so each person shares a similar burden of traveling.
It’s a very simple site to use. Just type in the two (or more) starting points, hit the bar stating, “Find a place to meet,” and almost instantly you have your results. By selecting one of the destination categories such as coffee shops, bars, hotels, libraries, theaters, etc, you can narrow the selection to best suit the meeting purpose.
Practical Uses:
- You live in a populous place like Los Angeles and you need to meet someone at rush hour
- Save your client some drive time by meeting at a central location
- Meet with 8 people from all across a city and make sure everyone can arrive on time
- Find a restaurant on the way to a party across town
Insider Tips:
- Click on “Other” above the map: you don’t have to choose a coffee shop, bar, or something else. Helpful if you want to meet at a specific location
- Keep your address handy to cut and paste because there’s no way to set a default location
- E-mail the map to the other people in your party so they can see where you’re meeting
What we liked:
- Comprehensive list of places, even in remote locations (it’s amusing to plug in an address in New York and Los Angeles and search places to meet in Elk City, Kansas)
- It’s free and fast
- There’s no other service like it
What we didn’t like:
- It doesn’t remember addresses so you have to plug them in anew, even your home address
- There should be links beneath the map to each location so you can get a sense of the decor and price of each place
- Likewise, it would be a good idea for the site to have a hybrid satellite view map, like Google, so you can get a sense of the neighborhood
