Takeoff – A Video Platform for Collaboration

Takeoff is a collaboration application that makes it easier for video production teams to work together on all their latest projects. From video commenting to file sharing, Takeoff makes it possible for remote workers to sit side-by-side with colleagues in a virtual editing environment. Takeoff creates an online production hub that is both private and centralized, allowing users to share sensitive materials such as rough edits and scripts in a secure online setting.

Whether your colleague is sitting a foot away or a mile away, you can sign up for Takeoff and start producing videos together in a virtual editing room almost immediately. Upload a video onto the site, and invite your colleagues to review it. Once they sign in, teammates can watch the video you’re uploaded and comment on specific frames in real time. You can reply to individual comments, or delete any critiques that don’t seem relevant based on the type of film you’re trying to create. Update the video you’re working on based on the recommendations of your colleagues or clients, and upload the latest version onto the site. With Takeoff, you can upload multiple versions of a video to a single project, making it easy for people to flip back and forth and review the changes that were made.

When teams use Takeoff to manage their video projects, they don’t have to worry about losing important critiques or having scripts get lost in the maze of emails and updates. Logos, soundtracks, and other files can all be uploaded and saved in a project’s “asset repository.” Each project has its own repository, so there’s no chance of getting confused about which soundtracks go with which projects when you’re juggling dozens of tasks at one time.

Practical Uses:

  • Collaborate with colleagues on a video you’re producing
  • Work together with teammates on a school video project
  • Share sensitive files in a secure online environment
  • Solicit feedback from clients on the commercials you’re creating

Insider Tips:

  • Videos cannot be downloaded unless the user who uploaded the videos allows it
  • Takeoff keeps transmissions safe with HTTPS 256-bit encryption
  • Customizable email notifications let users know when a comment has been made or a new file has been added to a project
  • Delete users to limit access to a project page at any time

What we liked:

  • Takeoff makes it possible to comment on specific frames within a video
  • Videos posted on Takeoff are much more secure than on YouTube or Vimeo
  • Clients can review and comment on the videos they’ve commissioned
  • Users get access to their own accounts, along with any “associated accounts” created by colleagues or clients

What we didn’t like:

  • Videos and assets cannot be any larger than 2 GB in size
