Syncplicity – Online Backup Made Simple

ss-syncplicity

Online backup doesn’t get much simpler than with Syncplicity. It’s a great way to sync, save, and share your files while ensuring they are available from any internet-connected computer. This will work well for personal users who work from multiple locations or business users who need to have documents available on the go. Here’s how it works.

Once you have created account, download and install the desktop application (available for Mac or Windows). Connect your computer to your account and it will automatically add your most important folders to the syncing list. Make the first backup. This is the one that will take the longest. When your files are backed up, you will always be able to access them from the online interface.

One of the best features of Syncplicity is that you never have to think about backing up ever again. In all the time we have tested it, the backup has never failed, unlike some of the competing products. Syncplicity is a great product and offers 2GB of storage for free with much larger options available for a monthly fee.

Practical Uses:

  • Create a Syncplicity account for your company and upload the forms you use regularly
  • Automate the backup of your sensitive data
  • Share your digital photos with friends and family without having to create a new account on a photo sharing site
  • Ensure the key documents you use everyday are always available on your work desktop computer, laptop, and home computer (even if some are Mac and some are PC’s)

Insider Tips:

  • If you’re an experienced computer user, change the default settings to select only the folders you want to backup
  • Add multiple computers to your Syncplicity account to keep all your files in one place
  • Edit your files online through Syncplicity’s tools and an updated version will be synced with your computer the next time you connect
  • Even if you change a file on different computers, you will always have access to the previous versions
  • Enable sharing to give friends or colleagues access to specific folders

What we liked:

  • Your files are kept secure with military-grade encryption
  • Once Syncplicity is installed, you never have to think about backing up your files. It just happens
  • You can open any file without the need for additional software as Syncplicity uses Zoho, Scribd, and Picnik
  • Syncplicity integrates with Google Docs to facilitate collaboration

What we didn’t like:

  • Syncplicity works seamlessly; we liked everything
