Indeed – Searches the Job Boards for You

It’s no secret that people are looking for jobs these days. It’s also no secret that more and more websites are aiming to take advantage of this huge market. No more are, Hot Jobs and CareerBuilder the only place to seek out jobs: now there’s Indeed, which will check all those (and many more) for you.

Indeed is a web application that will scan a list of job websites for the specific inquiry you searched. You can adjust the distance from the zip code you search from the exact location to 100 miles, as well as check out a graph of salaries over a two year range for the position you search for in the area you searched for. If that’s not enough you can always check out how often your particular jobs are found on Indeed, and check out forum posts related to your search.

After searching for a job, on the left are all kinds of filters for your search. If you’re looking for a certain salary range, Indeed will set it. If you want to see the most mentioned company, Indeed will show you. Basically, anything you need for your job search, Indeed will do the work for you. All you really need to know is what kind of job you want.

Practical Uses:

  • Find an entry-level position after graduating college
  • Compare salaries of your occupation in different cities to help weigh relocation costs/benefits
  • Browse all jobs within a specific zip code if you aren’t quite sure the best search keywords to use

Insider Tips:

  • Don’t hassle yourself by returning to the site every day. Instead, consider signing up for email alerts when new listings come online that meet your criteria
  • Not sure where you want to be or what you want to do? Browse by specific locations and job names
  • Compare salaries of multiple jobs within one zip code to determine where you can achieve the highest pay given your area of expertise

What we liked:

  • Indeed compiles data from multiple job sites, making job searching much easier
  • Search 10+ countries for jobs (though they are all in their native language)
  • The tools and filters offers multiple methods for narrowing your search

What we didn’t like:

  • There are “Sponsored Jobs”—a.k.a. ads everywhere
  • Maximum range of 100 miles is a little too constraining
