AnyClip – Find Any Clip at Any Time

Whether you’re settling a bet or waxing nostalgic about the movies of your youth, everyone has wanted to re-watch a favorite scene in a classic movie at one point or another. AnyClip is a website that lets you do that, by offering up an index of more than 2,000 searchable film clips that users can sort by tag or keyword and watch or share as much as they like.

Instead of fast-forwarding through an entire film just to see one funny scene, you can use AnyClip to cut directly to the chase. The site lets you search for clips by quote, action, object, actor, or film. This gives you an easy way to pinpoint a specific scene in a forgotten movie, even if all you remember is that the scene featured Johnny Depp sitting in a convertible car. (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.) Once you’ve pulled up the intended clip, watch it for yourself or send it out to friends by emailing a link and uploading the video to Facebook or Twitter. If watching the scene piques your interest and makes you want to see the whole film, simply click on the left-hand side of the page to add the movie to your Netflix queue, buy it on Amazon, or download it on iTunes.

Because AnyClip only offers the movie clips it legally has access to, its library might not have the specific scene you’re searching for yet. However, as the site continues to grow, its offerings will expand as well. For any movie buff who enjoys quoting films and replaying favorite scenes, AnyClip is an addictive website that’s worth playing around with.

Practical Uses:

  • Re-watch favorite parts of old movies
  • Settle a bet about which actor appeared in a specific scene of a movie
  • Discover all the films that featured a specific item or object, such as a Rolls Royce or an iPod
  • Watch scenes from older movies starring your favorite actors when they were kids

Insider Tips:

  • Search by object or item and see a list of scenes that fit that description
  • See all the “top moments” from within a favorite film
  • Tweet the clip you’ve found and share it with others
  • Add the best clips to your “favorites” list

What we liked:

  • Easy to share movie clips with friends
  • Order the DVD version of the film on Netflix without leaving the AnyClip site
  • Leave comments below your favorite or least favorite clips
  • Subscribe to your favorite clips and receive notice when someone else writes a comment or leaves a message

What we didn’t like:

  • The AnyClip library is still very limited, and most of the scenes we searched for were not available on the site

  1. Dear Stephanie,

Thanks for the review! I just wanted to clarify what you said about our index of clips. AnyClip doesn’t produce “clips” in the traditional sense — all of our movie moments are dynamically generated from the entire, contiguous movie. Unlike traditional “movie clip” sites where you you see just the moments they think are good, AnyClip makes an entire film searchable, thereby providing an infinite number of clips. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Best ~
