Teamly – Teamwork Without To-Do Lists

Eager to work more effectively as a team, but tired of the endless to-do lists that often come with group collaboration? Teamly is a productivity tool that simplifies things by encouraging groups to prioritize and focus on the tasks that really matter most. Rather than creating mile-long to-do lists and task sheets each day, groups that use Teamly are asked to write down a list of the five most important things they need to get done this day, week, and month. That’s it.

Whether you’re a manager, entrepreneur, or investor, or simply an employee at a company with a Teamly account, there’s little doubt that you’ll be able to get more done once you start using the application. Begin each morning by setting your five main priorities for the day, then get to work accomplishing those important tasks. Your manager can log in to his or her account to view what you and your colleagues are working on at any time. Not only that, but managers who use the site can also see how each employee is progressing in his tasks, lessening the number of times your boss is likely tap on your shoulder and ask how your assignments are coming along. Colleagues and bosses can also leave comments underneath any task, and you can print out reports that document all the work you’ve gotten done to hand over to your manager at any given time.

Teamly sends out daily progress report emails, prompting you to log in to the site to update the status of any projects you’ve recently finished. You can also mark certain tasks as private, to lessen the chances of sensitive information getting into the wrong hands. For managers, Teamly is a great way to give your employees autonomy while still being able to watch over all that’s going on. Employees and collaborators, meanwhile, will enjoy Teamly’s streamlined approach to getting things done.

Practical Uses:

  • Save time by only listing the five most important things you need to do each day
  • Create long-term goals and track the tasks that need to be completed this month
  • Check in on your employees without sending nagging emails or IMs
  • Visually see how much work you’ve gotten done this week

Insider Tips:

  • Make any task private to limit who can view it
  • Reorder your daily priorities at any point
  • See which employees accomplish the most by reviewing the company statistics
  • The site is completely free for teams to use while it’s in beta

What we liked:

  • Teamly offers a unique take on the best way to increase productivity
  • Managers who use the site can find out what their employees are up to without sending hourly emails
  • Employees who use Teamly have increased autonomy with their work
  • Daily emails from Teamly serve as a reminder of what needs to get done

What we didn’t like:

  • The general idea of to-do lists that contain only five priorities per day will only work for people in certain professions, since employees in some detail-oriented career fields have more than five tasks they need to accomplish each day
