Glider – Streamline Your Inbox

ss-glider
Checking email has become a common part of the typical American’s morning routine, right alongside taking a shower and eating a bowl of cereal. Unfortunately, the process of manually going through an overflowing inbox searching for important messages can take up precious minutes that most people don’t have to spare. Glider offers a solution. The email filtering application eliminates unnecessary messages from its users’ inboxes and files them away for future sorting.

Install Glider as a Google Chrome Extension and register with an existing Gmail account to begin using the service. The web-application’s FlowControl filters will automatically take any email newsletters and notifications sent to you from third parties and file those messages away using labels in your Gmail account. Once those pesky messages are removed from eyesight, your inbox should contain nothing more than the important messages you’ve received from actual business associates and family or friends.

In addition to filtering unimportant messages out of your inbox, Glider also provides you with detailed data that shows how you spend your time using Gmail. This data can be used to create a Glider profile, which other people can view to get an idea of your email habits. Work associates who see that it typically takes you two days to respond to an email won’t worry when they don’t hear back from you right away. Meanwhile, people who’ve never communicated with you before can see that you rarely reply to emails on the weekends and adjust their expectations accordingly.

Practical Uses:

  • Decrease the time you spend going through your inbox each morning
  • Filter email newsletters out of your inbox
  • Give people a better idea of the types of emails you’re likely to respond to
  • See how much time you spend checking email each day

Insider Tips:

  • People who don’t typically use Gmail can forward their email to a new Gmail account to take advantage of Glider’s service
  • Glider should be accessible from most smartphones
  • It takes 24 hours for FlowCharts to populate with a user’s information
  • Glider says it doesn’t access sensitive data in its users’ emails

What we liked:

  • People can make their email preferences known to associates
  • Important emails between people or groups are always left in a user’s inbox
