Timely – Time Tracking for Freelancers

Timely combines the usefulness of online scheduling and time tracking tools into a simplified, integrated application. When professionals use Timely to manage their online calendars, they can plan for new projects, delegate tasks to colleagues, and track time all simultaneously.

Timely works best when you use the application for everyday scheduling. Enter the dates and times when you’re planning to meet with clients or work on specific projects into Timely’s online calendar. You can drag-and-drop various projects into different time slots and manually adjust the amount of time you intend to spend on each project. When you’ve completed an assignment (for example, working on iPad wireframes for 2 hours on a Monday afternoon), mark that assignment as “logged.” Timely will convert the logged assignment and automatically enter the time you spent working on it into your digital timesheet.

Timely helps small businesses and freelancers plan for new projects, delegate tasks, and allocate resources based on the real-time availability of professional assets. The application integrates with existing calendar applications like Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Yahoo, among others. An iOS application also allows users to keep track of their schedules and track time seamlessly while working on the go.

Practical Uses:

  • Track the time spent working on client projects
  • Schedule meetings from a mobile device
  • Log hours directly from an online calendar
  • Keep track of business schedules and meetings in an online calendar

Insider Tips:

  • Get the Timely widget to start timers from the lock screen on an iOS device
  • Start a timer on the phone, and then pause it from Timely’s desktop app
  • Integrate multiple calendars with a single tap
  • Use the API to integrate applications with Timely

What we liked:

  • Users can delegate tasks based on available resources
  • Timely has a drag-and-drop interface that makes it easy to quickly reschedule events
  • Events are auto-imported from online calendars as “estimated entries”
  • Estimated collections are listed alongside every event entry
  • Users can add tags in the notes section of individual entries to organize similar projects

What we didn’t like:

  • Timely doesn’t have a mobile app for Android
