Bookmarking webpages to visit at a later date usually seems like a good idea at the time. Unfortunately, the bookmarks folders on most people’s browsers have become bottomless pits that are difficult to navigate, and as a result bookmarked sites are rarely re-visited again. Unmark wants people to stop hoarding bookmarks. Instead, the web-based application wants to turn bookmarks folders into to-do lists that demand action.
Grab Unmark’s bookmarklet tool or Chrome extension to quickly save important links. Rather than adding all your links to a single folder, Unmark will prompt you to add labels like “listen,” “read,” “watch,” “buy,” or “to-do” to your bookmarks. You can also add notes and hashtags to remind yourself why you saved a link to begin with. The next time you’re sitting on your laptop looking for an interesting article to read, return to your “read” list on Unmark and click on any interesting title that pops up. Unlike traditional browser bookmarks, Unmark’s bookmarks are available from any computer or mobile device. When you’re done reading the article you saved, archive the bookmark and Unmark will remove it from your list.
The more you use Unmark, the smarter the app becomes. Over time, Unmark learns what labels should go on certain links. (For example, links to articles in the New York Times might always get a “news” or a “read” label.) Unmark offers a number of additional useful features, like previews, timelines, and the ability to search for saved bookmarks by keyword.
